I just got back from Fashion Expo Arabia in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. What a wonderful experience!
The weather was fantastic, much better than back in Europe and talk about friendly, open people! I would have loved to stay and get to know this country and its people better, but I had work to do.
I did, however, manage to sneak an afternoon off to see the indoor ski slope in Dubai and, of course, do some shopping at the Mall of the Emirates (www.malloftheemirates.com).
The show which ran from 26th to the 29th of October was officially inaugurated by Shaikha Shamma Bint Zayed Al Nahyan herself, that is quite an honor. It was held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, what a perfect setting to show off fashion and luxury items!
Taking a quick break from my stand , I enjoyed discovering upcoming Middle Eastern designers such as Sakina M’sa, Rami Al Ali, and Manish Malhotra during the many catwalks. They represent an entire fashion world I had never imagined!! And such talent!
Everyone appreciated the collections I displayed there, including my special designs using Arabic script, which I think is beautiful. They will soon be featured on my website. I am sorry I didn’t bring more to sell at the show because many people wanted to buy on the spot. We did not see the professionals that we were looking for, but met many very interesting people and made contacts that hopefully, will open doors in the Middle East for us.
I would love to go back as a tourist and explore the culture of this amazing capital city! Next year I will plan a couple of extra days to enjoy (www.visitabudhabi.ae)!
